Artist book
17 x 17 cm
Paper, watercolour and calligraphy

This book goes through different stages in life regarding how we blend with others in our relationships. Four pages in watercolour and calligraphy folded as a Turkish map and glued together with two covers. It is enclosed in a box.

It was selected for the Notts Book Arts Exhibition 2024, a travelling group book artist exhibition on the theme Blend, in Nottingham (UK).

And it says:
I am born and tangled in a series of relationships.

I meet my mother and father. I meet my siblings, my grandparents, my uncles and aunts, and my cousins. I go to school and get to know other children like me, and other adults like my parents. I blend in.

I grow up and extend my relationships to other places. I have activities outside home and school, holidays in different places. I travel. I study and live abroad.

I reach my adult life, and I go out to work. I meet other adults like me and like my parents. I meet someone; I get married or not, but I form another family, my own, and I meet my partner’s.

I navigate all these different relationships, gaining new colours, new ways of doing and being, new paths. I blend with others.

And this is my walk of life, as my dearest guitarist friend sang, my map, my journey away from and back to myself, with or without colours, until I return to where I am not blended, where I am me again.
